On being reminded by itching

last night
a mosquito bit me and
flew away after it
quenched itself by
sucking my blood.
but something remained—
an irresistible itch
hard not to scratch.

you’ve left nothing, but
sucked my heart out.
like a mosquito that flies away
after one’s desire is gratified.
but something . . .
like an irresistible itch,
of pain, nostalgia & someone else’s
memory remains.
