In our continuing efforts to bring international literature to our readers, we are pleased to bring the 11th edition of “Life and Legends,” focused on Romanian poetry, which includes works of significant Romanian poets of the 20th and 21st centuries. This cornucopia of classic and modern Romanian poetry is a generous gift from our guest editor Maria Magdalena Biela, a Romanian writer, translator, and scholar based in Finland.
In her statement, Maria Magdalena Biela shares that Romanian poetry represents an integral part of European literature. However, it is vastly unexplored. Linguistic researchers, translators, readers, and historians have not truly discovered and adequately documented the history of Romanian Literature. Such an amputation of an important part of world literature defeats the universal culture.
“Life and Legends,” a champion of the cause of discovering international literature, recognizes and addresses this issue. Since 2013, we have published international literature from almost every part of the world, including special editions on Indian, Arabic, and Nepali poetry. In this series, we are proud to bring contemporary and classic Romanian poetry to our readers and thank our guest editor Maria Magdalena Biela, for trusting us with this responsibility.
The current edition of Life and Legends brings several other pieces of international literature to explore in original English and English translations of poetry from Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, and Bengali. The fine pieces of flash fiction and poetry picked by our group of editors warm our winter edition.
In the end, I must thank our Associate Editors, Lopa Banerjee and Megha Sood, and web editor Nirvan Chitnis for their team efforts and help me put this exceptional edition of Life and Legends together.
