BIO

Anuradha Bhattacharyya is an award winning Indian poet and fiction writer in English. Her contribution to poetry has spread over several countries. Her poems are philosophical, creative and thoughtful. They open to more than one reading, often to an alternate voice. Many poems sound like riddles and some are deceptively simple. The Tree

Here’s that tree –
Unshakable by hurricane,
Just shakes its head
In disappointment;
Remains quiet, tolerates,
Steadily searches for light.

In the dead of the night
Signs of light
Dance in the storm,
Look like flights of birds
In the rain.
Dreams !

Here’s that tree –
Whenever I approach it,
It wishes me well
With a smile.

হ্যারিকেন-ঝড়েও স্থির;
মুখ টিপে থাকে; সহ্য করে;

The Buddha, One Winter Morning

The Buddha
Was brought home
One winter morning,
Framed.

What if He left
Without revealing
The secret of Nirvana!
Quickly, in golden frames
He was hung on the wall.

The deceased are
Holy and glittering –
Why do the faithful think?

Like life emerges from seeds,
Does the soul revive
In rebirth.
Only He will show us the path
To birth and death –
People believe!

Not just this winter,
For several winters hence
Lord Buddha would be
Mere guest in our homes.
