ABOUT
Life and Legends, founded in 2013 by poet and writer Kalpna Singh-Chitnis, published its 1st edition in June 2014.
Life and Legends, primarily a poetry journal in English, also publishes literature from other languages translated into English. Our focus is to build bridges between languages and cultures and promote diversity in English literature. We create opportunities for newer writers, alongside publishing the work of the living legends, to inspire and bring all generations of writers together. We publish unsolicited works of Poetry, Poetry Translations, Flash fiction, Travel Essays, and Book Reviews.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Poetry – Submit a minimum of three to five poems with your abridged bio under 150 words (ALL ON ONE DOC) and a photo (in JPEG format attached separately from the doc.) addressed to the editor via e-mail. All materials must be submitted at one time and emailed to poetryeditor(at)lifeandlegends(dot)com.
Please DO NOT send submission material in the email body. We do not accept PDF. and Screenshots.
Translation – Submit the English Translations of a minimum of three to five poems (along with the poems in their original language) on a DOC, with BOTH poet and translator’s bio and picture. Email your translation submission to translationeditor(at)lifeandlegends(dot)com.
Authors must own the copyrights of their works, and translations must be approved by the author (or their agents/agencies), whose work has been translated and submitted to “Life and Legends” for publishing unless the work is in the public domain. We DO NOT contact agents or publishers to obtain permission on behalf of our writers and translators. Life and Legends cannot be held responsible for publishing a work of art or literature that is not submitted according to our guidelines.
Flash Fiction (Lighthouse) – Word limit 2500. The fiction piece, along with the author’s bio (under 150 words), must be submitted on one doc, and a high-resolution picture of the author must be attached separately. Email your fiction submission to proseeditor(at)lifeandlegends(dot)com.
Travel Essay (Destinations) – Word limit 1000. The essay, along with the author’s brief bio, must be submitted on one doc. A high-resolution picture of the author and at least three photos of the Destination must be attached separately. Email your Travel Essay to proseeditor(at)lifeandlegends(dot)com.
Book Review (Bedrock) – Submit a Micro Review of a book (no older than 18 months from its publication) in 250 to 500 words with the Book Title, Publication Date, Front Cover (in Jpeg format), with the Name(s) of the Author, Publisher, Reviewer and the Link where the book can be purchased. All information must be put on ONE DOC, cover attached separately. All items must be sent at one time. Email your book reviews to proseeditor(at)lifeandlegends(dot)com.
Reviewer’s and Author’s bios are not needed, but they can send the URLs of their Official Website, Facebook Page and Twitter Handle. Review Materials not submitted according to the guidelines may not receive a response.
Poetry Film and Video – To submit a poetry film or video (no longer than 5 minutes), please email us the preview link of your work with the poems and bio of the poet on a word doc. What we are looking for good poetry, rich visuals, good sound quality, and creativity. Email your film and video submission to editor(at)lifeandlegends(dot)com.
Cultural Diplomacy – Life and Legends invites Essays and Non-Fiction for its “Cultural Diplomacy” section. Materials may include information and resources helpful to diverse groups of writers, poets, translators, editors, and publishers. Email your Cultural Diplomacy submission to editor(at)lifeandlegends.com.
We are interested in reading proposals from individuals and organizations interested in collaborating with Life and Legends. Please contact – kalpna(at)lifeandlegends.com with your introduction and the nature of your proposal (or the theme of your write-up) before sending us the materials.
ACCEPTABLE FONT & FORMAT – Time New Roman. Font size – 12 points on a Word Doc.
We DO NOT accept previously published work (including online publications such as Journals, Blogs, Personal Websites, and Social Media). ***We can make an exception of publishing an outstanding work that appeared in a book format, as long as the author and the book publisher provide us the written permission to publish the work in both print and online media.*** Please advise the status of your work (as published or unpublished) below each item submitted to Life and Legends.
We are unable to custom design (fonts or style) of any literary work or art if we can’t.
It may take us up to 6 months or more to publish a work accepted by Life and Legends. Therefore, we do allow simultaneous submission. However, we request the writers to inform us immediately if their work is accepted elsewhere and published before it appears in Life and Legends. We advise you to contact us if you have submitted everything according to our guidelines but haven’t heard back from us in four months.

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES
Payment – “Life and Legends” is a non-profit journal. Therefore, we are unable to pay our writers, editors, guest editors, and artists for their contributions. But we do acknowledge and give due recognition to your published work.
Copyrights – Artists, Authors, and Translators retain the copyrights of their work. “Life and Legends” may re-publish their work entirely or in the form of excerpts in its future editions (online or in print) and mention in a relevant context for the purpose of review and promotion of the magazine elsewhere.

While we fully support freedom of expression, we also respect the sensibilities of all sections of our readers. Therefore, we are unable to accept poems, stories, or reviews the books with Political or Religious overtones (not including the human rights issues and other universal concerns important to us). Moreover, we do not accept any work with explicit adult content or language, as this magazine is read by people of all age groups internationally.
We may publish all kinds of art and literary work to celebrate artistic freedom and creativity, but the authors’ views and opinions are strictly their own.
